The Lady Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has voted to award Project Legacy their 2012 Community Service Award. The award will be presented at their Annual Banquet on Saturday, March 17th at Lake Port Square.

Letter from Peg Casey of the Flight Attendants' Club

Hello, Sidney...Our flight attendants' club met this week for its monthly luncheon and business meeting. On the agenda was the issue of which organization would receive our annual Christmas donation.

People were invited to stand and speak for whichever organization they wanted to receive the donation. I was scheduled to speak first and told the club about Project Legacy.

Other speakers followed me, and all had very appealing causes. One speaker wanted a donation for the Shanksville memorial being built in memory of that dreadful crash on 9-11. I thought that Shanksville would definitely be the one picked since we were all flight attendants who had strong emotional reactions to the tragedy.

When it came time for the membership to vote, Project Legacy was mentioned first. I raised my hand to vote for Project Legacy, but at the same time, I closed my eyes because I didn't think anyone would vote for an organization they had never heard of. However, curiosity got the best of me, and I opened my eyes to see if anyone else would support Project Legacy. Much to my amazement almost every hand was raised.

Many of the women said afterwards that they wanted their donation to go to a local organization, especially one which was geared towards children, so I am happy to say that Project Legacy will be receiving a $150 check from the Flight Attendants Club in December...Peg Casey
